Federal government workers to get pay rise next year

- This was the submission of the minister of labour and employment, Senator Chris Ngige
- Ngige said workers are entitled to a review of their salaries constitutionally
The minister of labour and employment, Senator Chris Ngige has revealed that workers will get a pay rise next year.
Ngige: Federal government to increase salaries next year
Ngige says workers are entitled to a review of their pay constitutionally
Ngige made the statement in Awka, Anambra state on Tuesday, December 13 during an interactive session with journalists, The Punch reports.
His words: “The Nigerian workers are entitled to a review of their pay under the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“The various committees handling this matter are all working hard to realise the objective. Some are at the final stages of their work.”
Of note is a statement by Ngige that the policy will not only be for workers in the public sector, but also in the private sector.
According to him, the policy will be drafted in such a way that any employer of labour in Nigeria who pays his/her workers below the minimum wage would face punishment.
Meanwhile, federal government agencies whose workers are earning superfluous salaries may have their wages reviewed.
This is in line with renewed push by the government to put a check on fleecing revenue especially by revenue generating agencies.
Similarly, the government has made plans to restructure some of the sectors in the country, even as the move might cost hundreds of workers their jobs.
