The recent information shows that the number of registered jet is 36,18 owned by state and 18 by individuals and cooperate companies, this is againstagainst former result that shows 67 private jets before buhari became president in 2015,during Jonathan's administration he had argued that Nigeria cannot be classified as a poor country having the number of private jet.
"when classifying ownership of private jet Nigeria is one of the first top 10 countries that own private jet,yet they say Nigeria is among the 5 poorest countries",he had said on may12014 during workers day rally at the eagles square abuja.the report quoted a pilot as saying that average sum of $5000 is needed to maintain a private jet(2.5m @490N/$)per hour.he said " it a lot of money to own a private jet like if you have like, diamond 3or4,you need an operating cost of $5000per hour,Diamond 5,you need $8000,you make an arrangement for fuel as per maintainance of the aircraft by approved maintenance organization (AMO)",you have to prove you have AMO","capacity to maintain the aircraft you need a qualified pilot that can fly it,authorized and approved by the NCAA".as a result of high cost of maintenance many of them have returned their jet to the original owners and many sold their own.
